# 6 Refeliction

Here in the college there is a class called 175 English Course, this course is very useful for students in the future when they will study lots of materials. In this course the students will improve in their reading, writing and listening skills. I am going to write what I learnt from this class and how I improved in it.

In the last semester I was afraid that I might drop in the next semester, but I did my best and passed in the first semester and said that I will also pass in the next one with good grades. First , in reading I didn’t used to finish it very fast because I use to read the whole reading and answer the question, but thanks to this course I learned now I new skill which is skim and scan which it help me very much in this course. Second is my writing skills, I really improved my writing from the last semester, right now all the grades that I get for my writing are to 5.7 to 6.0 but I hope in the future I will improve even more. Finally is my listening, unfortunately I didn’t improve very much because I have big problem in spelling, but that doesn’t mean that I should give up and I will try to do my best to improve my spelling.

In conclusion, I believe that the ENG N175 courses are very useful for students that will help them to improve their English.

# 2 Examinations are unfair ( argument)

All colleges, universities and schools are using exams to grade students and to know what they are doing. Some people think that exams are not a fair way of assessment and should not be used at HCT colleges. Also, some people think it is a good to use exams in colleges. I will discuss both sides

First, I am going to mention the positive side of using exams. The main point is to know the level of students. For example, when doing exams for students they will know how they improved in their courses and what mistakes they got so that they do their best next time. Another point is to let students review their materials. Some students while in class they might forget what they learnt so to make what they learn stick in their heads the college may use exams to make students restudy their materials. Next, another point is to keep students awake during the class. Some student don’t care to listen to their teachers so they should remind them that they have an exam so that they will be awake in class and listen to whatever the teacher is going to tell them.

Also, there are some negative points that people support. The first point is that there is too much materials to study. Some exams cover about five or six subjects that the students should study and it will be too much for them. Another point is the lack of time. Some students are slow when they are doing their exams that they might take them about one hour and half to finish so they need to make the time of the exam at least three hours. The third point is that exams make students nervous. All students before they get to their exams they are a little bit nervous so the teacher should help them and encourage them that the exam is easy.

In conclusion, I think I don’t agree that exams are unfair and should be canceled because how should the students know about their progress or how are they doing in college without doing exams?

# 2 Visitors to China ( line graph)

This line graph shows the number of the German and French visitors coming to China from 1998 to 2007. Overall, the numbers of both countries are very similar.

First, the number of German visitors rose up from 1998 to 2000. There was sharp growth of the number of visitors from 2000 to 2001 and the numbers remain steady till 2002. In 2002 the number on German visitors started to decrease until stopping in 2005. The number again started to increase from 2005 to 2006 and stayed the same in 2007.

As for the French visitors, from 1998 to 1999 they had a small decrease in number and the number started to increase after a year from the last year. In 2000 the number of French visitors had a sharp increase till 2001, but in the next year the number also had a sharp decrease and it continued to decrease and stop in 2005. Finally, the number of visitors increased in a small amount from 2005 to 2006 and they also decreased from 2006 to 2007.
In conclusion, I think that some countries might have the same number of visitors visiting other countries, but we might not know what will happen to these numbers in the future.

# 5 Using mobile phone while driving

Each day there is a very shocking car accidents and the reason for these accident is people using their phones while driving. Some people agree to making phones illegal and other people disagree. In this essay I am going to describe the pros and cons for using mobile phones while driving.

There are several agreements of making phones illegal while driving. The first point is unfocused drivers. For example, while talking on the phone you are not focused on driving or on the road. Another point is distraction. If you hear bad news on the phone you might get very angry and you might get distracted. Next, another point is that you don’t know at what speed you are driving. For example, while you are talking on the phone it is easy to drive too fast and you might have an accident.

There are also another disagreements against making phones illegal while driving. The first point is making emergency calls. For example, in case of an emergency you need to use the phone and call for help. Another point is to find a location. If you need to find a place that you are looking for you will use your map application on your phone so you will need to see the screen. Next, another point is businessmen’s important calls. For example, businessmen’s are every busy and sometimes they need to take important business calls from their office.

In conclusion, I think I agree with making phones illegal while driving because I had an accident last year because I used my phone while I was driving to the college.

# 1 Blocking access to website (argument)

Nowadays, every house in the UAE can access the internet, thanks to technology. But, some people think there are some websites that are very bad sites that can affect people or interrupt our work. Others think it isn’t necessary to block some website. This essay will talk about the pros and cons of Etisalat blocking internet access to websites.

There are several arguments for blocking a website. The first argument is that some good website are blocked without any reason. Here in the UAE there are some good information for the people if they want to know about cars or good vacation places or getting information on their topics. The second argument is freedom to use. Some people when they use their computers especially at college or university students want to get some information they don’t get the whole information because of the blocked website and this might affect their studies.

However, there are many more people agree to block some website. The first point is gaining bad habits. Some websites show some bad things or write some bad words, these words can affect children who might get hurt by these words. The next point is hackers and viruses the reason to block some website is because the hackers and viruses can destroy everything in your computer.

In conclusion, blocking websites or unblocking websites has both advantages and disadvantages. I believe that blocking websites in better than unblocking websites because it will save our computers from viruses and hackers and will save our children from gaining and gaining bad habits.

# 1 Workers coming to Dubai ( line graph)

The graph shows changes in the number of workers coming to Dubai from both the UK and Canada between 1990 and 2006. Overall, there was a huge increase in the number of workers over the period.

The biggest change was in the number of the Canadian workers. In 1990 there were almost 11 thousand Canadian workers. After 1992 the number of workers rose sharply. It rose from 15 thousand in 1992 to just under 90 thousand in 2002. But in 2004 it fell to 80 thousand workers however, in 2006 there was a rise to 90 thousand Canadian workers in Dubai.

The number of UK workers followed slight increases and decreases. Between 1990 and 1994 there was a slight increase in the number of workers from 50 thousand to 70 thousand. But from 1994 to 1998 the numbers start to marginally decrease to 60 thousand. Finally, there is a significant increase in the number of UK workers in the last four years to 90 thousand.

In conclusion, the number of both UK and Canada workers coincided in number in the year 2006 and in the end the number of workers seems to have stabilized, but it still hard to tell for sure.

Causes of obesity in the UAE

Nowadays, most of the people in the UAE especially the young ones have a good body shape and also good health, but some people have a serious problem which is called obesity. In this essay I will outline some of the causes and suggest some viable solutions.

Starting with the causes, the first cause is diet. When people go to eat they find too much food offered at every meal and some people cannot resist the smell of good food. Another negative cause is the lifestyle. Nowadays, every mall have lots of places to order fast food so people when they finish from work or school they go eat outside rather than going home. The final cause is in education. For example, some people have a lack of knowledge about good eating habits, because of that they gain too much weight and they don’t know better.

Fortunately, there are solutions for these dangerous causes. One answer is to do some exercise. For example, people can eat everywhere they want, but they must do exercises to burn the calories they got from eating food. The next solution is to schedule your time, instead of watching TV or playing computers all day, watch TV for one hour and do exercise for another hour and half. The last solution is educating the people; some people don’t know the risks of eating fast food so we need to educate them to avoid obesity.

In conclusion, obesity is a very serious problem that we need to be careful about it because it ruins the young people’s life and they cannot enjoy their youth. But, by avoiding this problem they will have a good healthy life.

TV problems

Nowadays, TV has become very popular especially for children but this technology also has become very dangerous. This essay will describe some problems about children watching TV too much and will suggest some solutions to these problems.

There are several problems about children watching TV too much. The first problem is that children have eye problems and gain more weight. For example, for children to watch TV all the day is like a dream for them and because of that they might gain weight or their eye sight will decrease. Another negative point is they don’t do homework. Sometimes if the child spends all his time watching TV and doesn’t do their homework it can affect his grades. Yet another problem is communication to others. For example, children spending time on TV they might gain bad habits and also they can’t communicate to other people and they will have autism.

Although these problems are very serious, yet there are some important solutions that can fix these problems. The first solution is making a time table for the children. For example, children are like soldiers by giving them an order they will do what you need for you. Another solution is to meet new friends. If children meet others they may be friends and they will play together and they don’t have to watch TV. Yet another reasonable solution is let them join some clubs. For example, by joining swimming club or karate club children will know lots of things and make new friends instead of watching TV all the day.

In conclusion, this problem is very serious but there is no problem without a solution. So by doing this solution your children will be very healthy and they will enjoy life before it’s too late.

Accident in the Desert

Last week I went to Liwa with my friends to go on camping trip, when we arrived there we saw a weird accident involving two cars and some camels in the middle of the desert.

When my classes finished I went to home and took a shower and when I finished my telephone rang, it was my friend asking me to join them and I said it a good idea. We arrived at Liwa and we went to buy tent, food supplies, wood and camping tool and took the road to the middle of the desert. While we was driving we saw two cars ran into a hired of camels, it was weird to have an accident in the middle of the desert. There wasn’t any damages to the people who were driving the car but the problem is that one of the camels died and the other one broke its legs, I felt very sad for the camels, one of my friends talked to the drivers and one of them said that he wasn’t concentrate on the road and the other ne was following him without making space between him and the other driver so he turned to avoid hitting the other driver and because of that he hit one of the camels.

In the end, we had our camping and I learn from this accident that I should be very concentrate while I am driving my car because it might be a person instead of an animal.

The Petrol Process

Petrol is very important in our life because we use it to get our cars to move and also we use it in factories. This essay will describe the steps how oil is refined.

First, the oil is located by survey teams and pumped via pipeline. Second, the oil is stored in storage tanks and it is refined into various products, including petrol by professional scientist. Next, petrol is stored in tanks and petrol is transported to petrol stations by trucks. After that, the petrol is stored in underground tanks. Finally, petrol is pumped into cars to be used.

In conclusion, the petrol is a good revenue source that made the United Arab Emirates a developed country. These steps in the petrol process are very dangerous and need a lot of care and experience skills to do.

First my brother and I entered the store and we saw two suspicious men in the store, and I said to my brother that something bad will happen. Next, when we finished our shopping and walked out of the store suddenly some guy bumped me and ran away. I recognized him; he was one of the suspicious men. After that when he ran away I heard a voice say, stop police. It was the voice of the police officer chasing the two men. He tried to shoot them, but he was afraid to shoot one of the people around him so he called for backup. Finally, when my brother and I finished shopping we went to our car outside the Mall, we saw two men in the police car. I asked the police men, what is there crime. He said, there crime was stealing.

In conclusion, what we learn from this story is no matter how much you do crimes in the end the hands of law will catch you anywhere you go or hide and whenever you do a crime you will get punished and you will end up in jail. So thinks before you do a crime and stay away from danger.
